The Beckoning of Lovely

in Fun Links & Inspiration

It’s time for a dose of creativity and inspiration for the day! I would like to share with you a video made by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, which I came to via the absolutely marvelous blog maya*made. Amy is the author of a number of wonderful children’s books, including Little Pea and Little Hoot, among others.

Amy posted a video on YouTube titled 17 Things I Made, and at the end she invited anyone watching to meet her on 8/8/08 at 8:08 p.m. at Millenium Park, Chicago, to make an 18th thing. When she got there that evening, she was amazed to find a huge crowd waiting for her. Let’s see what happened…

I think we are all secretly yearning for someone to draw us out and inspire us to do something creative, and that’s what I love about Amy’s project – she did just that. Right now, Amy is preparing to create a full-length film of loveliness…can’t wait to see it!

Hello Laura–

I saw your post at the Squam blog (and in Amanda’s comments) and wanted to assure you that you would so NOT be out of place as Squam. In fact, most everybody feels precisely as you do. the MOST common email I get says the same thing– I actually did a whole post about this at the Squam blog– http://www.squamartworkshops.com/mp.php?p=blog&ty=2008&sid=636 if this link doesn’t come through– it’s at the May 4, 2008 post. all about fear and blind faith.

Two other resources for reassurance: if you go to the “raves” page and click on the write-ups and ALSO the yahoo message board is LOADED with posts about this very topic.

And, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to know anything further!

All the best, Elizabeth
