The Girl Project

Wonder what teens are up to these days? The Girl Project is putting teen girls behind the camera to document their own lives.  Girls are encouraged to take photographs of anything they wish – and after taking a look at the photos on The Girl Project Blog and Flickr set, you may be surprised at the wide range of experiences, cultures, and perspectives that are represented. From sweet snapshots of family members, friends and pets, to drunken parties, moody self-portraits, and an at-home ear piercing (using an apple! OMG!), this is capturing a true cross-section of American life.

Later this year, a selection of the photographs will be published in a book, and become part of a traveling exhibition on female adolescence. Girls interested in participating can email the founder of the project to get a disposable camera in the mail. The girl whose work is chosen as the cover image for the book will receive $1,000!
